Pre-Admissions Requirements

Secondary and post-secondary students may enroll in the Medical Assisting program. Students must meet the following additional program requirements:

  • Post-secondary students must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass DATC Admissions Tests in reading, math, spelling, language and typing.*
  • Complete a physical exam performed by a physician and provide documentation of all required vaccinations. Complete a Medical Assistant Program Application and be accepted into the program.

*In most cases, students who need assistance with these skills can be enrolled in Skill Development classes either before starting their training program or concurrently while enrolled in the program.

Post Admission Requirements:

  • Students accepted into the Medical Assisting Program, must meet the following requirements:
  • Secondary students must be 18 years old before beginning their clinical externship.
  • Take and pass a urine drug screen.
  • Complete and pass a federal criminal background check.**

**Any misdemeanor or felony conviction on record may negatively impact the chances of completing the program, being placed on an externship site, applying for the Certified Medical Assistant credential and obtaining employment in a health care setting. See instructor for more information.
