Jean Madsen, 1925-2017

Jean Madsen, 1925-2017

We at Davis Technical College are saddened by the passing of Jean Madsen, our longtime benefactor and friend.

Jean was born in 1925. Jean’s mother’s love of education, music, and helping others was a strong influence in her life. Jean performed in local productions and earned a bachelor’s degree in music and education. She taught classes at Weber State College and became a District Music Supervisor in California. When she moved back to Utah, she taught kindergarten classes and earned her master’s degree in music education. Jean served as a music supervisor for Davis County’s elementary schools and soon became the first female principal in the district.

Jean loved to serve her community and earned numerous awards for her work. Some of the organizations she served include: the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Davis Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist International of Bountiful, Huntsman Senior World Games, American Legion, the Bountiful/Davis Art Center, Weber State University Advisory Board, Lions Club, American Legion, the Davis Technical College Foundation, and more.

Jean was a founding member of the Davis Technical College Foundation Board, and even as an Emeritus Board Member, remained very involved with the organization.

“Until just a few months ago, Jean never missed a meeting,” says Foundation Director Marcie Valdez. “Jean Madsen is such a big part of who we are at the Davis Technical College. She will be greatly missed, but her smile and memory will live on.”
